Apex

The apex is the innermost point of a corner, where a properly driven racing line touches the inside edge of the track. Hitting the apex correctly allows a driver to carry maximum speed through a corner by straightening the arc of the turn. The geometric apex (physical midpoint) and the racing apex (the fastest point to aim for) are often different, depending on what follows the corner.
