Homologation

Homologation is the official approval process by which a racing car, component, or series regulation is certified by a governing body such as the FIA or ACO as meeting the required technical specifications. Manufacturers must submit detailed technical documentation and produce a minimum number of road-going versions of a car before it can be homologated for competition. GT3 and LMDh cars, for example, must go through rigorous FIA homologation before being eligible to race.
