Safety Car

A safety car (SC) is a high-performance road car deployed onto the circuit to neutralise a race following an incident, allowing marshals and recovery crews to work safely while keeping the field bunched behind it. In Formula 1, the official safety car is a Mercedes-AMG GT or Aston Martin Vantage. A virtual safety car (VSC) procedure is used for lesser incidents, requiring all competitors to reduce speed without deploying a physical car.
